Entries for the Cox family in the parish registers of Hanslope

Scope :
This table includes all entries for the surname Cox and its phonetic equivalents, such as Coxe, Cocks and Cockes.
The table also includes entries for the baptisms of females who later married into the Cox family, and the burials of females who had married into other families.

Page Numbers :
Pages in volumes I to IV are not numbered. Numbers in brackets [n] in the table correspond to those adopted by the Hanslope and District Historical Society.

Dates :
In accordance with convention, all dates which fall between 1 January and 24 March in any year until 1751, are shown in both Old and New Styles in this table
eg the baptism of Katherin Cox, which is recorded in the register as 29 Jan 1589 (NS), is shown here as 29 Jan 1588/89

Arrangement :
The layout of the original entries has not normally been replicated. Each entry has been re-formatted into two parts: its date and its details.
The whole table is arranged in order of date. In a few cases this differs slightly from the original page order.

31 Dec 1812 After this date, all baptisms and burials were required to be recorded on pre-printed proformas in separate volumes.

This table includes entries in Volumes I to V of the parish registers of Hanslope, and covers the period until 31 Dec 1812.
It includes the years when old scripts and handwriting were used; and the years when different year-styles were used.
It covers the period when baptisms, marriages and burials were intermingled on unformatted and un-numbered pages.

Since 1 Jan 1813 all entries have been in printed registers of a standard form imposed by Act of Parliament.
They contain numbered proformas, on numbered pages, in separate volumes for baptisms, marriages and burials.
Their entries are in modern handwriting and do not normally present difficulties, either in reading or in interpretation.

From the mid-1800s basic family history research becomes trivial, with the ready availability of many other classes of records.
These include civil records of births, marriages and deaths; census returns; trade directories; and civil records of probate.
